'Learning and Achieving Together'
'Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment. A high quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject.'
At Hobletts Manor Junior School we encourage a love and enthusiasm for numbers!, We recognise the importance of mathematics in everyday life and therefore aim to equip our children with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to succeed in this subject. Mathematics at our school is taught using a wide range of resources including hands-on practical equipment such as bead strings, place value counters ad Numicon to give children concrete experiences of the concepts and methods being taught. Investigational work supports the development of fluency, reasoning and problem solving skills. Lessons are varied and tailored to suit the needs in each class and are linked, where appropriate to other other curriculum areas, in particular science. Hertfordshire for Learning (HfL)Immersion Planning is used to ensure full and effective coverage of the mathematics curriculum. We have developed our own Calculation Policy written to provide clear methods for all four mathematical operations throughout the school. Dedicated mathematics areas in classrooms provide further support for learning.
We value the support of our families and offer additional opportunities for involvement through Family Mathematics Challenges.
