Welcome to Year 3 and Team Azure 2025/26

    Your teacher is Ms Dyer

Your teaching assistant is Miss Kellaway

Welcome back to what has been a very busy week of learning in Year 3!

In English this week, we have started our new topic ‘Adventure Stories.’ We have been reading Winnie the Pooh and enjoying the adventures that he and his friends got up to. We loved taking part in the role play lesson, reading a chapter of the story and acting it out with our friends. We went on to create a character profile of Winnie the Pooh; some of us also took on the challenge of profiling his friends too. After that we studied a scene in 100 Aker Wood, discussing adjectives to describe what we could see. We then each wrote a setting description in our own words. Next week, we will be writing an adventure story for Winnie The Pooh,

In Maths this week we have been learning how to divide amounts into groups of 2,4 and 8. We have learnt how to use the times tables to answer questions, and also how to find multiplication and division facts by x10 and ÷10.

As Musicians, we have been learning how to play the glockenspiel, following a beat and preparing to learn a new whole class song. We had great fun, but it was very noisy!

In RE, we discussed the 5 Pillars of Islam, remembering our previous learning on them and why they hold importance to Muslims. This week, we focused on the Pillar Sawm which represents fasting. We learnt about what Ramadan is and why Muslims fast and how this is important in order for them to be able to feel close to God. We learnt about who is exempt from fasting in Ramadan and what their role is during Ramadan in order for them to be able to feel close to God in this time. Lastly, we thought about Muslims values in relation to fasting and related these to our own values in what we do in order to feel close to God.

We have finished our week looking at a range of fossils. We all had a go at becoming palaeontologists, using a dig kit to search for fossils. We were all very excited about it. We then used descriptive words and phrases to describe the fossils, thinking about their size and shape. We ended our lesson using pencils to draw and shade a variety of fossils on display.

It has been a long first week back and we are all very tired, so enjoy the weekend everybody, get plenty of rest, as we have lots more fun lessons next week.
