It’s been a busy one!
In English this week, we continued with our persuasive writing module. We reminded ourselves of the book, ‘Greta and the Giants’ by Zoe Tucker and Zoe Persico. We used persuasive features to plan and write a letter, to encourage others to pick up their litter. Next week, we will continue with the theme of litter, and write a letter to our local MP, to ask for support. We will be writing in a lot more detail and include facts about recycling. We will focus on persuasive techniques, such as rhetorical questions, the power of three and repetition, and also the use of accurate punctuation and varied sentence structures.
In Maths this week, we have looked at different ways of representing multiplication and division word problems and learning all about the distributive law which is a law that helps us the multiply larger numbers. We also learned some new words to help us understand the parts of a division equation. They are: ‘divisor’, ‘dividend’ and ‘quotient’. Next week, we will be exploring the distributive law further, building up to knowing that 9 x 5 is the same as calculating 5 x 5 + 4 x 5.
In Science, we began our new topic all about Electricity. We discussed the different types of electricity, focusing on mains and battery operated electricity. We thought of examples of household items which use each type, such as fridges, phones and televisions and talked about how some use both! We then used electrical equipment such as wires, batteries and lightbulbs to make our own circuits in order to find out what is needed to make a circuit complete.
In Geography, we have learned about the River Nile and its importance to the people of Egypt in both ancient and modern times. We used artist interpretations to explore how the River Nile was used in ancient times, before reading through some more detailed explanations about the Nile’s uses. We then wrote about what it was used for to show our understanding. We found out that it had many different purposes including trade and transport, irrigation and hunting and that it flows through a whopping 11 countries! What an amazing river!
In French, we revised our learning on numbers, days of the week and months. We then combined our knowledge of all three things and had a go at writing a series of dates in French, which included the day of the week, number and the month. We also translated the most important dates of all – our birthdays!
In DT, we started our nightlight unit of work. We loved looking at existing products for inspiration, so thank you for sharing them with us! After some investigating, we were able to write our own specifications, and are looking forward to designing and making them soon!
This week, we also enjoyed participating in the Maths Games Afternoon and it was lovely to see so many faces in attendance. Well done to everyone who took the time to make a game for the competition and congratulations to our Year 4 winners: Henry, Monty, Ansh, Jessica, Harry, Sienna and Olivia!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
