Welcome back!
It has been lovely to see everyone again this week.
In English this week, we started our report writing module. We read some newspaper articles and compared them, then made a list of features for the working wall. We then had a go at writing an opening paragraph for a newspaper report called, ‘Hairy, Scary Creatures!’ We used the five Ws: Who? What? Where? When? Why? Then we added some quotes from some eyewitnesses using our best speech punctuation! Next week, we will be planning and writing a more detailed newspaper report about some missing items!
This week in Maths, we have continued to review our knowledge of fractions. We have learnt that a whole thing can be made from many parts. We used shapes which we cut into a different number of parts and then put back together to re-make our whole shapes. From this, we were able to have a discussion about equal parts and unequal parts. We learnt that for parts to be equal, they all have to be the same. We then explored how to describe the size of a part in relation to the whole thing. We have also begun practising a brand-new times table: our nines! Next week, we will be learning about mixed numbers and how to calculate with them, as well as how to place fractions on a number line.
In science, we explored what sound is and how it is made. We learnt that when an object vibrates, such as a plucked string or our vocal cords, it causes surrounding particles (air, liquid, or solid) to vibrate. We looked at how different instruments in different families make sound. We then explored vibrations using our voices, rice on a drum and a tuning fork in water.
In RE, we talked about what freedom is and how the idea of freedom applies to religious believers. We talked about why it is important, and what people can do when they have it. We then made our own pledges.
In history, we identified where Greece is on a map of the world. We then explored where Ancient Greece fits on a timeline. We placed significant events in order of when they happened thousands of years ago. Our optional home learning for the summer term, relates to our learning in history and you can now find details of this on the website attached below!
