This week in maths, we have continued with our fractions unit. We have learnt to add and subtract fractions, including mixed numbers and improper fractions. We have used our knowledge of equivalent fractions to help us add and subtract fractions. In English, we have learnt to plan ideas for writing a biography about Mary Anning by thinking about the audience and purpose. We have thought about how to use adverbials and relative clauses for cohesion and to add detail in a biography. We have also planned a biography about Marie Curie, which we will write next week.
In science this week, we have learnt about reversible changes using the water cycle as an example. We made our own water cycles to see this working in action. In PSHE, we had a P4C discussion after watching a video about child labour on a cocoa plantation in Ghana in order to compare our lives with those of the developing world. In RE, we compared Christianity's advent to Judaism's Hanukkah and thought about the importance of light in both religions. Lastly, we had our history trip to the Chiltern Air Museum. We had a fantastic time and the children were absolute role models. They enjoyed an archeology workshop and a workshop on the life of an Anglo-Saxon. Everyone participated well in the activities, and it helped consolidate what we have learnt about the Anglo-Saxons.
Next week in English we will be writing a biography about Marie Curie using adverbials and relative clauses. In maths, we will be doing some Christmas-related problem-solving activities. We are very much looking forward to the year 5 and 6 carol concert on Monday too and hope to see many of you there!
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
Sapphire's PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

This week, we had great fun on our trip to the Chiltern Open Air Museum to learn about Anglo Saxon village life and we used our history skills to learn about the past in an archaeological dig too!
This week in Computing we had a computer workshop. The children became computer programmers, coding to keep a diamond (kept in a vault) safe from would-be thieves!
This week in Science, we investigated which material was the best insulator to keep a cup of water warm for the longest period.
This week in Maths, we have been learning how to use the bus stop method of division. To start with, we used counters to help us understand the process.
Well done to our Achievement Certificate winners for this week. In RE this week, we were learning about the importance of looking for the good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have.
This week, in Science we investigated the properties of different materials. We tested for magnetism, permeability, hardness, flexibility and if the materials were transparent.
This week, for PSHE we had a workshop about well-being and we learnt some strategies for how to be resilient. In PE, we competed in the Cross Country event at Adeyfield School. There were some amazing runners and a really supportive team cheering them on.
In PSHE this week, we worked as a team to build the tallest tower possible using only paper and sellotape. We had to listen to each other, share ideas, cooperate and encourage each other.
In PE this week, Sapphire had great fun learning some tag rugby skills.
In Science this week, we investigated if the temperature of the water affected how quickly the salt dissolved.
This week, we had great fun in Computing, coding instructions for a game.
