Hello everyone – the weekend is here already and we are all looking forward to doing fun things with our families. Let’s hope the lovely weather continues.

In English this week, we have been planning and writing our own non-chronological reports, based on our dream jobs. Our teachers were very surprised to hear some of the strange and wonderful jobs we’d like to do when we grow up.

Next week we will be looking at our work and thinking about what we could do to improve it. Each day we will have a new focus, such as adding conjunctions, prepositions or more interesting vocabulary. At the end of the week we are going to write out our reports in a colourful interesting way, based on the style of the book, ‘Incredible Jobs.’

In Maths this week we have continued to revise subtraction, using 3 digit numbers, however, our main focus has been to understand that a whole can be divided into any number of equal parts. We have also learned the meaning on numerator and denominator, and now understand that a fractions represent part of a whole.

In Art this week, we evaluated our mark making in clay. We talked about the different techniques we used to mark make, the type of media we used, what was easy and what we found tricky. We then went on to discuss how using clay made us feel. Finally we considered what we learnt from the activity and what we could change next time.

In PSHE we learnt about all the items we have that come from different countries, thinking about which country they come from and how we get them here in England. We looked at how workers in different countries make the items that we need before they arrive in England ready for us to buy, and the similarities and differences of those in different countries to our lives here in England. We explored how we are connected to lots of people across the world.  Lastly, we learnt about Fairtrade, and how we can spot this sign in the supermarket.

In Science this week, we started the lesson by working as groups to match the correct rock with its name recapping from last lesson. We then looked at common properties of rocks: hard and soft, permeable or impermeable, durable and density. We looked at the definition of each property in more detail learning that permeable means to allow water to soak through and absorb and impermeable doesn’t allow water to absorb and runs off the side. We also learnt that rocks which sink in water have high density whereas rocks that float have low density. We decided to carry out two different experiments in groups to see the permeability of rocks and which rocks have high or low density. Before carrying out our experiment, we wrote down our predictions and after we recorded our results as a group, writing down our findings and whether our predictions were correct.  We finished the lesson by grouping our rocks in a Venn diagram from our findings.

We have had a very busy four days, and are ready to have a great weekend. Have fun everyone!
