Welcome to Year 5 and Team Saffron 2025/26

    Your teacher is Miss Summers

Your teaching assistants are Mrs Archer and Mrs Brewster

This week in English, we continued to read extracts from the book ‘Monsterology’ and wrote sentences using a range of fronted adverbials and prepositions to add detail. We will then started to plan some ideas for writing a report about our own monster. In Maths, we explored the value of digits in decimal numbers and then compared and ordered decimal numbers. We also revised our rounding skills to round decimal numbers and we read scales with negative numbers.

In RE this week, we compared the key beliefs of Judaism and Christianity, looking for similarities and differences. In Science, we investigated what happened when some materials were mixed with water. We used our observation skills to see if the materials dissolved to make a solution or if it made a suspension in the water. We then thought about how we could get those materials back again by using different methods of separation.

In Computing, we had great fun using Coding to create codes to play a simple catching game. In PSHE, we looked at our rights, as children, according to the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child. We then thought about what responsibilities go hand in hand with those rights. In Music, we listened to the song Ghost Parade and expressed our thoughts and feelings about it. In History, we learnt about 7 kingdoms that the Anglo Saxons split England into and discovered that many place names have originated from Anglo Saxon times.

Next week in English we will be writing our own non-chronological reports about our own monsters. We will use a range of adverbials and prepositions to add detail as well as conjunctions and will use some possessive apostrophes too! In Maths next week, we will be multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.

    Have a great weekend!
