This week in maths we have been working on short multiplication and long multiplication. The children have worked hard on mastering these methods. In English, we started a poetry unit where we explored different poems, looked at cinquain poems and their features and spent time thinking about how poets use language and the impact this has on the reader.
This week in history we have explored the discovery of Sutton Hoo and used artefacts found to think about who may have been buried at the site. In PSHE, we have thought about our own culture and how this may be similar and different to others. In computing, we have continued with our coding lessons and the children showed such resilience in trying to code their own alien spaceship game. We were very impressed by their coding abilities! Lastly, in RE we spent time thinking about gratitude and what we are thankful for. The children came up with lots of ideas, which were lovely to see. We then thought about how gratitude is important in Judaism.
Next week in maths, we will be having a further lesson practising long multiplication and then move onto understanding short division using concrete counters and pictorial representations to begin with before using our times tables knowledge to help us. At the end of the week, we will look at division with remainders as numbers and as fractions. In English next week, we will write our own cinquain poem inspired by the poem In Flanders Fields. We will then continue our mystery and suspense unit and start to read our new class book 'The Boy in the Tower', focusing on character viewpoints.
Have a great weekend!

The children explored clues about an Anglo-Saxon Discovery - Sutton Hoo - to think about who may have been buried there.
We had a resilience workshop today where we learnt about what resilience is and talked about strategies to help us to manage big emotions. One of the strategies we practised was finger breathing. The children listened and contributed really well.
The children did so well during the cross country. Everyone tried their best and did not give up!
