In Maths this week we learnt how to use bar models to help us calculate fractions of amounts and then we applied these skills to solve some word problems. We also recapped units of measure and converted from large units of measure to smaller units by using or multiplication skills. In English, we continued our unit about persuasive letters. We wrote some short letters using formal language, modal verbs and adverbs of possibility and then we planned some ideas to write our own persuasive letters to Mrs Short.
In RE this week, we learnt about the Jewish festival of Purim. We found out when and why it is celebrated each year and the fun activities that take place during that special time. In Science, we learnt about the force of gravity and measured the weight of various objects using a force meter. In Music, we started to compose our own music, focussing on the pulse and in PSHE we discussed how the choices we make when we spend money affects us and sometimes the environment. In Art, we used some sketching techniques to create tone.
Next week in Maths, we will continue to convert metric measures but this time from smaller units to larger units. We will then apply our skills to solving word problems with measures. In English, we will finish writing our own persuasive letter and then start our new narrative unit, using the book, ‘The Promise’, focussing on its use of figurative language.
Have a great weekend!

This week in science, we learnt about gravity and learnt about the difference between mass and weight. The children enjoyed weighing different items from the classroom using Newton Metres. Well done Team!
It has been a lovely week back finished by an art lesson where we were learning about our artist for the unit Daniel Mackie, thinking about his work and what we like about it and then comparing it to another artist's work.
In science, we learnt about irreversible changes. The children observed what happens when baking powder is added to vinegar and then saw that carbon dioxide is used as Miss Summers used the gas created as a fire extinguisher to put out some tea light flames.
The children were absolutely fantastic on the trip. They enjoyed an archeology workshop in the morning and then a workshop on the life of an anglo-saxon in the afternoon. What an amazing day! Our Elf Edith even made her way with us.
The children worked hard in science this afternoon, researching different scientists in order to learn about what they invented. We thought about the impact scientists have on the world.
The children listened really well and worked really hard in our computing workshop today. They programmed a microbit and tested to see if their programming had worked.
In art, we designed some Anglo-Saxon-inspired jewellery which we will make using embossing before the Christmas break. The children worked hard to think of different designs.
In science, we investigated which material would insulate a container the best. We discussed how to make it a fair test and recorded our results over time. Whilst waiting for the results, we started off Cool to be Kind week by the children sharing 5 compliments with their learning partners. We talked about how good it feels when someone is kind. I am looking forward to seeing how the children continue to show kindness throughout the week.
The children explored clues about an Anglo-Saxon Discovery - Sutton Hoo - to think about who may have been buried there.
We had a resilience workshop today where we learnt about what resilience is and talked about strategies to help us to manage big emotions. One of the strategies we practised was finger breathing. The children listened and contributed really well.
The children did so well during the cross country. Everyone tried their best and did not give up!
We investigated how the temperature of water affected its saturation point.
We investigated whether the temperature of water affected how quickly salt dissolves.
In science this week, we investigated if different materials were dissolvable.
