Next week in year five…

We have lots of exciting things planned for next week.

Next week in English, we are excited to continue our journey into the wonderful story ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’! The children will focus on bringing the story to life by writing vivid setting descriptions and creating a rich atmosphere. They will practice developing characters and advancing the plot smoothly, using clever conjunctions and adverbial phrases to transition between scenes. Finally, they will work on polishing their skills by editing their grammar, vocabulary, and punctuation to ensure their writing is clear, impactful, and expressive.

Next week in maths, we will be diving into the world of money! We will be learning how to represent and compare different amounts of money using both pounds and pence, as well as how to convert between the two (like turning 150p into £1.50). The children will also build up their practical addition and subtraction skills by adding and subtracting quantities of money, including learning a handy mental maths trick for adding 99p. Finally, they will put their learning to the test by practising how to calculate and find change, a fantastic real-world skill they can use next time you visit the shops together!

We have an exciting and busy week of learning ahead! In DT, the children will put their designs into action as we continue to bake our healthy vegetable muffins. In Science, we will explore magnets to see how different everyday materials react to them. Our RE and PSHE lessons will connect closely this week: we will look at how the core beliefs of Judaism guide people's choices, and we'll encourage the children to reflect on how their own behaviours and values impact those around them.

Week commencing 05.10.26

This week the children have enjoyed starting to cook their vegetable muffins in DT and learning about thermal conductivity in our ice cube race in science.

Week commencing 28.09.26

This week we had a trampolining workshop, which the children thoroughly enjoyed! We also composed a piece using musical notes in music, which we then performed in the next lesson.

Week commencing 21.09.26

In computing this week, we learnt to create a title page and contents page for online quizzes. In DT, we tasted a variety of ingredients to help inform our design that we will complete for our vegetable muffins. As scientists we tested the electrical conductivity of objects of different materials in circuits.

Week commencing 14.09.26

In science this week, we practically explored the transparency of different materials using a torch. We used this to group the materials into whether they were transparent or opaque. In RE, we learnt about the Torah, looked at Judaism and Christianity artefacts and sorted facts about the Torah and Christianity.

Week commencing 11.09.26

In music, we played notes on the Glockenspiels and split the class into 3 parts with 2 parts playing a drone. In DT, we explored which fruits and vegetables are seasonal.
