What a busy half term we have had!

In Geography, we have been learning all about the rainforests of the world and have looked in detail at exactly what they are and where they are located. We have loved discovering more about them and looking at the diversity of life which lives there. We have considered the various threats faced by rainforests and the reality of deforestation.

As Scientists, we have been studying ‘Living Things’. We have recapped the seven life processes which make something a living thing and learnt all about Carl Linnaeus: a Swedish scientist who devised a seven part system for grouping living things. Complicated stuff, but we had lots of fun inventing clever ways to help us remember the system! We have also created our own classification keys and learnt all about microorganisms: both harmful and helpful. As well as this, we have looked at the different vertebrate and invertebrate groups and how plants are classified. We created our own branching diagrams to identify livings – both real and imagined.

In RE, we have continued to develop our knowledge of the Buddhist religion and have explored what the Buddha said about suffering and desire. We have also thought about how Buddhists use prayer flags to spread positive thoughts around the world and even had a go at designing our own while listening to a Buddhist mantra. In PSHE, we have spent lots of time considering our dreams and goals and how we might achieve them and in Computing we have learnt how to create, comment and add posts to a blog.

In Art, we had an amazing wire workshop, creating wire sculptures from chicken wire. We cut them to match a template using wire cutters and joined them together with pliers. We made two models each and      decided whether we wanted to decorate with tissue paper, with mod-roc or leave as wire!

Next half term, we will continue with our Geography and Science topics of ‘Rainforests’ and ‘Living Things’. In DT, we will be starting our very own rainforest-inspired cushions topic and in PSHE, we will be looking at how to keep our bodies and minds healthy.

Enjoy the holidays and we look forward to seeing you all again soon!

wc 26.01.26 - In Science, we learnt about how animals are classified and that they are classified into 2 groups: vertebrates and invertebrates. We looked at the key features of each group.

wc 19.01.26 - This week in Science, we created a poster about both helpful and harmful microorganisms.

wc 12.01.26 - On Thursday, we had lots of fun taking part in the Math's game afternoon.

wc 05.01.26 - In Science, we started our 'Living Things' topic and revised 'MRS GREN' to enable us to identify whether an object is living or not.

wc 15.12.25 - This week, we participated in a workshop where we made robots out of lego using coding for DT.

wc 08.12.25 - In Science, we found out how to create a circuit with a switch and created circuits with bulbs, buzzers and motors.

wc 01.12.25 - This week in RE, we designed our own Christmas cards incorporating a mix of sacred and secular images, finishing them with a sacred message inside.  We really enjoyed doing this!

wc 17.11.25: Science - this week we added components to a circuit and observed what happened to the brightness of the bulb!
