Citron 2025-2026

Welcome to Year 4 and Team Citron

Your teacher is Miss Palmer

Your teaching assistants are Miss Routledge, Mrs O'Shea, Mr Dakin and Mrs Elson

In English this week, we used our reading VIPERS skills to retrieve factual information about the Ancient Egyptians: the pyramids, mummification and the River Nile. We used books from our classrooms, along with our knowledge from our history lessons. We looked at the features of non-chronological reports and compared fiction and non-fiction texts. Next week, we are looking forward to writing our own non-chronological reports about the ancient civilisation, including presentational features, a range of sentence types (subordinate clauses and adverbial phrases) and a range of accurate punctuation.

This week in Maths, we have explored what happens when we multiply and divide multiples of 10 by the number 10, as well as why this happens. We have practised multiplying and dividing a range of 2 and 3 digit multiples using a place value chart to help show us how the digits in each multiple move, as they become either bigger or smaller, depending on whether you are dividing or multiplying. We have then practised doing this more efficiently without a place value chart by remembering the rules:

To multiply a whole number by 10, place a zero after the final digit of that number.

To divide a multiple of 10 by 10, remove the 0 from the ones place.

Next week, we will be exploring what happens when we multiply and divide multiples of 100 by 100 as well as why this happens.

In history, we found out about the Ancient Egyptian process of mummification. We discovered that this was a process used to preserve the body in order for it to continue on to the afterlife and live forever. We ordered the steps for mummification and even had a go at mummifying using some oranges!

In DT, we have begun working on our Ancient Egyptian nightlights! We have blown up our balloons and started covering them with many layers of tissue paper and glue in order to create the shape required for our lights. We are excited to decorate them once we have finished building up the layers!

In RE, we learnt about each of the 5 Ks and why they are important to Sikhs, by matching the names, pictures and meanings. There are five items that a Sikh may carry or wear: Kesh (uncut hair), Kangha (a wooden comb), Kara (a steel bracelet), Kachera (cotton undergarments), and Kirpan (a sword)

In music, we have been leaning the song, ‘I’m Always There.’ We thought about the beat, the instruments we could hear, what the song was about and how it made us feel. We enjoyed singing along while working on our DT too! We even had a duet performed by George and Alisa!

Have a great weekend, everyone!

PE days for year 4 will be on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays
