Welcome to Year 4 and Team Citron

Your teacher is Miss Palmer

Your teaching assistants are Miss Routledge, Mrs O'Shea, Mr Dakin and Mrs Elson

This week in English, we read some poems from The Works, edited by Paul Cookson. We have also learnt about and read some haikus and counted the syllables in some of the examples. We have made a list to record the features of a haiku. We have been inspired by the outdoors and have gone on a springtime walk around school, recording any vocabulary that signified spring and compiling a list of sights, smells and sounds, including onomatopoeia - words that sound like the noise they describe! We loved spending time outside looking for signs of spring. Next week, we will be using the ideas we have compiled in order to write our own springtime haikus.

This week in Maths, we have consolidated our learning on co-ordinates and had the opportunity to practice the skills we learnt last week. We began by plotting the co-ordinates we had been given onto big grids, in order to reveal a mystery picture. For a challenge, we then had a go at writing our own set of co-ordinates in order to create a different picture on our grids. We have also been practising the skill of translation, which, in Maths, means moving shapes a certain number of squares across a grid. Next week, we will be focussing on practising the x tables we have learnt so far in a range of ways.

In Religious Education, we looked at how Sikhs and Christians share food in their communities. We wrote about how each Gurdwara has a langar, (free kitchen) and how Christians use pancakes in preparation for the start of Lent. We have also learnt the story of the Last Supper and explored the food shared by Jesus and its significance. We then had a go at retelling the story in our own words.

In Science, we revisited our observation sheets from setting up our egg experiment last week. We then looked at our eggs, and how they look today. We discussed the changes we had observed and why these changes had occurred. We decided on which eggs can prove the liquid is not harmful to our teeth, and which eggs can prove which liquids are harmful to our teeth. We then discussed our conclusion on our experiment before using our templates to write them up. Lastly, we discussed how we could protect our teeth against these liquids and other harmful foods when we do consume them.

In French, we have started a new topic all about how to order food in a restaurant. We had lots of fun roleplaying in French about how to ask for a menu, how to order an item off a menu and how to ask for the bill.

In Computing, we created some more animations using the skills we have learnt over the last few weeks including adding sound and a background to each of our frames. We then saved our creations to a class blog in order to view each other’s work and leave positive comments for everyone.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

PE days for year 4 will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Please bring in library books on a Friday
