Citron 2024-2025

Welcome to Year 4 and Team Citron

Your teacher is Miss Palmer

Your teaching assistants are Miss Blackwell, Miss Routledge & Mrs Green

In English this week, we worked in learning partners to discuss our ideas, and then we planned and wrote a short persuasive letter about litter in the local area. We then looked at the features of persuasive writing and gathered ideas for writing a longer letter in more detail next week. We will include a range of conjunctions, punctuation and adverbial phrases, and also include some facts and personal anecdotes. We will keep referring to the story of, ‘Greta and the Giants,’ inspired by Greta Thunberg and her stand to save the world!

This week in Maths, we explored and grouped a range of different sized angles and learnt mathematical names for them, before comparing and ordering them from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. We also learnt to recognise different types of angles in a range of 2D shapes. We then rehearsed how to tell the time to the nearest minute, on an analogue clock. By the end of the week we were practicing how to write the time using both words and numbers. Next week, we will continue practising our learning of ‘time.’

In PSHE this week, we had a visit from Anne and Brooke to deliver a Changes and Transition workshop. We talked about our feelings when we experience change and how we can cope when we are finding change tricky. We also talked about moving to year five and what we are looking forward to.

We spent Thursday afternoon in our new classes again for PE and Geography. In PE we were learning skills for sports day. In Geography, we recapped our learning of Europe and how we use atlases, maps and globes to locate countries. Then we used Google Earth to find the countries using digital/computer mapping.

In French this week, we were learning and memorising names of European countries and how to say that you live in a country, using the correct preposition. We then created a poster about a character living in a chosen European country. We then wrote statements about the music they like and instruments they play.

PE days for Year 4 in the summer term will be Tuesdays and Thursdays

Our library day is Friday - please bring books into school every week
