In English this week, we wrote our non-chronological reports about the ancient Egyptians. Our sub-headings included an introduction, the pyramids, mummification and the River Nile. We have enjoyed writing about the ancient civilisation and using the features of the text type, including presentational features, different sentence types (subordinate clauses and adverbial phrases) and a range of accurate punctuation. Next week, we will be editing and improving our writing, and we will focus on adding extra description with adverbs and expanded noun phrases. We are looking forward to adding pictures to our reports and presenting them with our best handwriting.
This week in Maths, we have explored what happens when we multiply and divide multiples of 100 by 100, as well as why this happens. We started by using place value charts to explore how and why numbers become bigger or smaller, depending on whether you multiply or divide them. We then learned a series of rules, which allowed us to do this more quickly, without a place value chart. As well as this, we have practiced completing missing numbers questions involving multiplying and dividing by 100, and answered some word problems requiring multiplication and division to answer them. Next week, we will be revising the key concepts learnt so far in Year 4 and answering some questions independently to show what we have learned.
In science, we revised the different parts of a circuit. We learnt about insulators and conductors, and predicted whether materials would be a conductor or not before moving on to testing them using a circuit and recording our results in a table.
In French, we have learned some more phrases to help us describe the weather. We have used actions to help us learn the phrases, ‘It is sunny’, ‘It is windy’ and ‘It is snowing’ and were able to match up the French with the English.
In Computing, we have continued to use the programme ‘Logo’ in order to create a range of shapes and letters on a grid. This week, we have focused on using the repeat command available in the programme in order to avoid typing out lots of long pieces of coding and make our commands as efficient as possible. For a challenge, we tried to write the shortest pieces of coding in order to create the letters ‘B’ and ‘P’ on our grids.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
