This half term we have been very busy in Year 6. In Geography, we have been learning about the sorts of goods and services the UK imports and exports, as well as locating cities and identifying key features of Britain.  Our last Geography lessons involved us using Ordnance Survey Maps of London and challenging each other to locate different map symbols using the 4 digit grid references we gave – we really enjoyed doing this!  We even challenged ourselves to give 6 digit references to see how much easier it was to locate places.

We also visited Bentley Priory as part of our World War 2 History topic which was the headquarters of the ‘Battle of Britain’ campaign. We had a tour of the museum and then become part of the command centre and directed where our planes should fly to defeat the Luftwaffe!

In DT, we thoroughly enjoyed designing, building and then programming Lego robots.  We had to design the robot which would be most successful in a battle!  This was great fun!

In Science, we have been learning about Electricity. We loved using the equipment to conduct various experiments! Two of our recent investigations have included increasing the number of batteries in a circuit to determine the effect on the components (bulb, buzzer, motor), as well as lengthening the number of wires in a different circuit to discover the impact on the bulb. In addition to this, we have looked at different types of switches and learnt how to draw circuit diagrams using the correct scientific symbols.

In our RE lessons, we have continued to look at Buddhism; exploring Buddhist attitudes to animals and living things and reflecting on how we ourselves can show respect for the environment. We have also learned about key Buddhist concepts – such as karma and reincarnation – and considered how Buddhists conduct their lives in order to accumulate good karma.  We also considered how Christmas can be celebrated in both a sacred and secular way and designed cards with a sacred and secular message.  During PSHE we have been finding out more about the challenges faced by those living with disability, the positive and negative aspects of power and control and the amazing lives of Paralympians and their impact. We also enjoyed practicing carols for our Christmas Carol Concert and watching the Christmas pantomime! Oh yes we did!

Next half term, we look forward to exploring some new topics: in Science we will look at ‘Living Things’ and as Geographers we will be studying ‘Rainforests’. Wishing you all a fantastic winter break and we will see you in the New Year!

wc 15.12.25 - This week, we participated in a workshop where we made robots out of lego using coding for DT.

wc 08.12.25 - In Science, we found out how to create a circuit with a switch and created circuits with bulbs, buzzers and motors.

wc 01.12.25 - This week in RE, we designed our own Christmas cards incorporating a mix of sacred and secular images, finishing them with a sacred message inside.  We really enjoyed doing this!

wc 17.11.25: Science - this week we added components to a circuit and observed what happened to the brightness of the bulb!

wc 10.11.25: Science - this week we made a circuit with a bulb and a battery and observed what happened when another battery was added!

wc 03.11.25 - Our amazing trip to the Bentley Priory Museum.

wc 20.10.25 - This week in Art, we have been continuing replicating paintings of London using our chosen medium ready for our final pieces after half term.
