The children have had another busy and successful week!
This week in maths, the children have worked incredibly hard in revision lessons and on their reasoning and arithmetic tests. Well done everyone! In English, we have continued to write our non-chronological report using technical language and parenthesis that we practised in previous lessons.
In DT, we have continued to build our Viking Houses by glueing the woodwork together. We were taught how to use a glue gun safely and worked well together to start the construction of the houses.
In PSHE, we thought together about how the media and celebrity culture promote certain body types and looked at how images in the media can be altered.
In science, we completed an investigation for science week, where we tried to make a raft that would float. We had the challenge of seeing if the raft could hold multi-link cubes and had a competition to see whose raft could hold the most. We learnt that the rafts with a bigger surface area were more successful.
In RE, we recapped the Christian story of Easter and then learnt about the symbols of Easter and what they represent.
In History, we investigated what Viking life was like using different sources and thought about if we would prefer to live in Viking times or modern day.
This week in computing we created a class database and worked together to input different 'records' for members of our class.
Next week in maths we will be moving onto our angles unit. We will be recapping the properties of different angles before comparing and ordering them. We will learn how to measure angles accurately using a protractor, learn to draw angles using a protractor, and learn how to find missing angles. In English, we will finish our non-chronological reports using all the skills we have been practising. We will have the opportunity to edit and improve these and also write a blurb.
We hope you have a lovely weekend!
Saffron's PE days for next week are Monday and Thursday.

Everyone worked really hard in DT today to finish off their Viking Houses. Well done!
This week was science week and the children had a lot of fun completing their investigation to see if they could make a raft that floats. They then had a challenge to see which raft could hold the most multi-link cubes. They needed to use teamwork.
It was so lovely to see all the children's outfits on World Book Day. We had a very busy and fun day. We joined an online live 'books and football' based quiz, had our world book day assembly, designed our own book covers, completed some book reviews and had a lovely time at 'books and blankets'.
This week and during the last week of half-term the children cooked their vegetable muffins with Mrs Pyke. They all worked very hard and I do hope they enjoyed the finished product at home!
The children enjoyed tasting some ingredients ahead of making their vegetable muffins. We thought about the smell and texture as well. It was lovely to see children trying some new things!
This afternoon, we created our final pieces inspired by Daniel Mackie. The children's work was so impressive!
Today we learnt about using squares to estimate area and compared the area of one of our feet and one of our hands to see which had the greatest area. The children showed great determination with this!
We are incredibly proud of the members of our team and the rest of the school who attended the Young Voices this week. You all did so amazingly well!
In PSHE this week, we thought about the importance of different jobs and learnt about the salaries for these jobs. We did well at working together during our activities.
This week in science, we learnt about gravity and learnt about the difference between mass and weight. The children enjoyed weighing different items from the classroom using Newton Metres. Well done Team!
It has been a lovely week back finished by an art lesson where we were learning about our artist for the unit Daniel Mackie, thinking about his work and what we like about it and then comparing it to another artist's work.
In science, we learnt about irreversible changes. The children observed what happens when baking powder is added to vinegar and then saw that carbon dioxide is used as Miss Summers used the gas created as a fire extinguisher to put out some tea light flames.
The children were absolutely fantastic on the trip. They enjoyed an archeology workshop in the morning and then a workshop on the life of an anglo-saxon in the afternoon. What an amazing day! Our Elf Edith even made her way with us.
The children worked hard in science this afternoon, researching different scientists in order to learn about what they invented. We thought about the impact scientists have on the world.
The children listened really well and worked really hard in our computing workshop today. They programmed a microbit and tested to see if their programming had worked.
In art, we designed some Anglo-Saxon-inspired jewellery which we will make using embossing before the Christmas break. The children worked hard to think of different designs.
In science, we investigated which material would insulate a container the best. We discussed how to make it a fair test and recorded our results over time. Whilst waiting for the results, we started off Cool to be Kind week by the children sharing 5 compliments with their learning partners. We talked about how good it feels when someone is kind. I am looking forward to seeing how the children continue to show kindness throughout the week.
The children explored clues about an Anglo-Saxon Discovery - Sutton Hoo - to think about who may have been buried there.
We had a resilience workshop today where we learnt about what resilience is and talked about strategies to help us to manage big emotions. One of the strategies we practised was finger breathing. The children listened and contributed really well.
The children did so well during the cross country. Everyone tried their best and did not give up!
We investigated how the temperature of water affected its saturation point.
We investigated whether the temperature of water affected how quickly salt dissolves.
In science this week, we investigated if different materials were dissolvable.
