This week in English, we will began our new Narrative unit and read the book, ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’. We started by giving our personal responses to the book and then we wrote sentences, based on the story, with expanded noun phrases and relative clauses. We also re-ordered the clauses in sentences to add variety to our writing, to keep the reader engaged. In Maths, we revisited converting between units of measure (for example litres to millilitres, kilometres to metres and kilograms to grams) and then solved a range of word problems involving measure.
In RE this week, we learnt what the wide roles and responsibilities of a Christian leader are and what personal qualities they must have in order to do their job as somebody in a position of authority. In Geography, we learnt some of the key features of rivers, including the source at the start of the river and the mouth at the end of the river. In PSHE, we continued to discuss the positives and negatives of online communities and we discussed what we should do if we ever feel concerned about anything we see online or uncomfortable about messages received. In Art, we used different mediums (e.g pastel, pencil, water colours and paper) to create a picture in the style of Wassily Kandinsky. In Computing, we continued to work on our games, adding another level of difficulty by adding more obstacles and ’enemies’ that hunt the player. In French, we learnt how to use some language to compare planets (e.g. bigger, smaller, hotter, colder) and in Science, we found out what evidence there is to prove that the planet Earth is spherical and not flat.
Next week in English, we will continue our work using the book ‘Cloud Tea Monkeys’ and write some descriptive sentences using some expanded noun phrases. We will also use a range of fronted adverbials to give more detail for the reader and we will consider how some characters feel and what they might say at certain points in the story. In Maths next week, we will be solving problems involving scaling by either multiplying or dividing numbers. We will also look at word problems involving fractions and percentages.
Have a great extra long weekend!

This week in Art, we started to create a concentric circles picture, using different mediums, in the style of Wassily Kandinsky. Congratulations to the Achievement certificate winners for this week.
This week in Computing, we started to make our games. In DT, we finished painting our Viking houses and evaluated them. Congratulations to the certificate winners for this week!
This week, Sapphire started learning to play the cornets in Music.
Congratulations to the weekly Achievement winners!
This week in DT, we used the glue guns to attach the wood together to construct the Viking houses.
Congratulations to the achievement certificate winners for this week. For Science week, we explored making a boat out of paper that could hold as much weight as possible without sinking. We knew that a larger surface area would be needed for the force of upthrust to push against. In DT this week, we started to measure and saw the wood that we need to make the structure of a Viking house.
In DT this week, everyone baked some amazing savoury muffins.
In DT this week we designed our Viking houses.
In Art this week, we used water colours to create some fantastic pictures in the style of Daniel Mackie. In Science, we investigated water resistance by dropping some bluetac of different shapes into the water to see if the shape affected how quickly it sunk through the water.
In maths this week, we used multilink cubes to build cubed numbers. Well done to all the Achievement certificate winners for this week!
This week in Art we created tone using watercolours.
In PE this week, we had great fun learning some trampolining skills. We also really enjoyed playing some of the winning Maths games from the Christmas Maths Challenge. In Science, we used force meters to measure the weight of objects and in Art we used some cross hatching skills to create tone.
Congratulations to our weekly certificate winners.
This week in Art we had great fun making our Anglo Saxon jewellery, using embossing techniques.
This week, we had great fun on our trip to the Chiltern Open Air Museum to learn about Anglo Saxon village life and we used our history skills to learn about the past in an archaeological dig too!
This week in Computing we had a computer workshop. The children became computer programmers, coding to keep a diamond (kept in a vault) safe from would-be thieves!
This week in Science, we investigated which material was the best insulator to keep a cup of water warm for the longest period.
This week in Maths, we have been learning how to use the bus stop method of division. To start with, we used counters to help us understand the process.
Well done to our Achievement Certificate winners for this week. In RE this week, we were learning about the importance of looking for the good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have.
This week, in Science we investigated the properties of different materials. We tested for magnetism, permeability, hardness, flexibility and if the materials were transparent.
This week, for PSHE we had a workshop about well-being and we learnt some strategies for how to be resilient. In PE, we competed in the Cross Country event at Adeyfield School. There were some amazing runners and a really supportive team cheering them on.
In PSHE this week, we worked as a team to build the tallest tower possible using only paper and sellotape. We had to listen to each other, share ideas, cooperate and encourage each other.
In PE this week, Sapphire had great fun learning some tag rugby skills.
In Science this week, we investigated if the temperature of the water affected how quickly the salt dissolved.
This week, we had great fun in Computing, coding instructions for a game.
