This week in maths, we have continued with our fractions unit. We have compared fractions using one half, mixed numbers and equivalent fractions. We have also completed part of another arithmetic test to revise our previous units on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In English, we finished writing our ending to the story and worked hard to include all of the skills we have been taught as well as our suspenseful language. We have started our new unit on biographies using the class text 'Stone Girl Bone Girl'. We have learnt about what biographies are and thought about why they are written. We have learnt to take notes to gather ideas for the writing of our own biography next week.
This week we started our online safety unit in computing. We learnt about the SMART acronym as tips to keep us safe online. We then started to create a comic strip to explain one aspect of this. In PSHE, we have learnt about the difference between direct and indirect bullying and took part in some freeze frames to show our understanding of these terms. In RE, we recapped what we had learnt in the previous lesson about Yom Kippur. We then compared Judaism to Christianity and other world religions and discovered that forgiveness is something that they all had in common. In science, we learnt about some famous scientists and inventors and had a chance to research to learn further about different inventions. In French, we learnt about to use vocabulary to describe a quantity of food.
Next week in maths, we will be continuing with our fractions unit. We will be learning to add and subtract fractions, including mixed numbers and improper fractions. We will learn to use our knowledge of equivalent fractions to help us add and subtract fractions. In English, we will learn to plan ideas for writing a biography about Mary Anning by thinking about the audience and purpose before drafting a biography. We will think about how we can use relative clauses to add extra detail. We will finish the week by beginning to plan a biography on a different person that we will write the following week.
We have our history trip to the Chiltern Air Museum next week, which we are very much looking forward too. We hope you have a lovely weekend!
Sapphire's PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday.

This week in Computing we had a computer workshop. The children became computer programmers, coding to keep a diamond (kept in a vault) safe from would-be thieves!
This week in Science, we investigated which material was the best insulator to keep a cup of water warm for the longest period.
This week in Maths, we have been learning how to use the bus stop method of division. To start with, we used counters to help us understand the process.
Well done to our Achievement Certificate winners for this week. In RE this week, we were learning about the importance of looking for the good in our lives and being thankful for the things we have.
This week, in Science we investigated the properties of different materials. We tested for magnetism, permeability, hardness, flexibility and if the materials were transparent.
This week, for PSHE we had a workshop about well-being and we learnt some strategies for how to be resilient. In PE, we competed in the Cross Country event at Adeyfield School. There were some amazing runners and a really supportive team cheering them on.
In PSHE this week, we worked as a team to build the tallest tower possible using only paper and sellotape. We had to listen to each other, share ideas, cooperate and encourage each other.
In PE this week, Sapphire had great fun learning some tag rugby skills.
In Science this week, we investigated if the temperature of the water affected how quickly the salt dissolved.
This week, we had great fun in Computing, coding instructions for a game.
